The four Local Government Authorities of the Bunbury Geographe Growth Plan Partnership have recently taken the first steps toward committing to a joint approach in developing a region wide Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). A RAP is a business plan that documents what an organisation commits to do to contribute to reconciliation in Australia.
At a Leadership Forum facilitated by ECU Bunbury’s Dean, Ms Lyn Farrell, Executives, Senior Staff and Council representatives reviewed the framework from Reconciliation Australia that could deliver each organisations vision for a Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) program.
Each RAP will enable the organisations to commit to implementing and measuring practical actions that build respectful relationships and create opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
The aims of the half day session were:
- Introduction to RAP process
- Decision on an appropriate model
- Decision on an appropriate starting RAP level
- ECU recommended approach and Project Plan
- Leadership commitment and Action Plan
City of Bunbury and the Shires of Capel, Dardanup and Harvey will now offer representatives to join a Working Group, together with ECU and South West Development Commission staff, to prepare a project plan of Actions, Deliverables, Timelines and Responsibilites and progress to a practical plans of action built on relationships, respect and opportunities.
